EcoDNA is currently undergoing the process of gaining ISO/IEC 17025 under NATA MoU Schedule 5 for eDNA based testing. Once awarded we will publish here the accredited portfolio for end users and collaborating centres.
Stringent and highly scrutinised workflows are needed to deliver consistent and repeatable molecular results that can reliably inform management decisions. For this purpose, the Centre is undergoing the assessment of its workflows for certification through accreditation, following guidelines of the International Organisation for Accreditation (ISO; www.iso.org) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC; www.iec.ch), which form the specialised system for worldwide standardisation and are recognised by regulating entities globally.
Assessing the competency of laboratories and their eDNA-based molecular methods is a key component for widespread incorporation of eDNA-based applications into management decisions.
The ISO/IEC 17025 Accreditation is a common requirement requested by regulating entities worldwide for laboratories providing standard tests and calibration services.
Beyond good-practice protocols and training, accreditation provides recognition of competence and reliability to produce trustworthy results. The National eDNA Reference Centre is currently undergoing accreditation recognition by NATA under ISO/IEC 17025 for the purpose of molecular testing of genomic and environmental DNA/RNA. Upon being granted NATA accreditation under ISO/IEC 17025 we will inform all stakeholders and end-users via our webpage.
NATA is Australia's leading national accreditation body, recognised by government to assess organisations against a number of international standards for laboratories, proficiency testing scheme providers and reference material producers.
Accreditation and certification by NATA will demonstrate that the Centre is meeting or exceeding minimum standards in the production and delivery of its activities. This in turn will facilitate confidence in our stakeholders that we have been assessed by NATA to deliver data that can be relied upon to inform decisions.
